CITY HALL
San Francisco City Hall is one of the Bay Area’s most iconic wedding locations Because it is a public building, couples may take portraits in many public areas during open building hours without reserving a private wedding space. Since City Hall remains open to the public, there may be other visitors, couples, or photographers nearby during the session. We guide each couple through the space with care, using the best angles, timing, and natural light to create clean, elegant images. When appropriate, we may politely ask for a brief opening, adjust the composition, or remove small background distractions during editing so the final gallery feels timeless and focused on the couple. San Francisco City Hall offers different wedding options for weekdays and weekends, depending on the size and style of the celebration. For simple civil ceremonies, couples can book their marriage license and ceremony through the San Francisco Office of the County Clerk. For weekday private ceremonies, City Hall Events offers a One-Hour Wedding package on the Mayor’s Balcony or Fourth Floor Gallery, currently listed at $1,200 for up to 100 guests. This rental includes private use of the space for one hour, while chairs, musicians, florals, and other vendors may be arranged separately. Acoustic music may be allowed with advance approval, and City Hall Events does not provide an officiant or manage marriage licenses and certificates. Weekend weddings are typically larger rentals. City Hall’s Two-Hour Wedding package is held on Saturdays only on the Grand Staircase of the Rotunda and is currently listed at $6,000 for up to 200 guests, including natural wood folding chairs, insurance, and basic building services. For larger evening or weekend celebrations, couples may rent the Rotunda with one or both Light Courts, with published rental rates starting at $12,000 before additional labor, insurance, equipment, security, and other charges. For current rules, availability, fees, and booking details, please refer to the San Francisco County Clerk and San Francisco City Hall Events websites.
